This toolkit is an introduction to the pedagogical implications of teaching in English. This toolkit is aimed primarily at educators working with course development, or anyone interested in teaching in English at KI.

The toolkit consists of seven content modules.

  7. Supporting your Students

You can either progress through the course sequentially, module by module, or immerse yourself in specific modules, allowing you to explore content at your own pace.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the toolkit, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of effective English language teaching practices, including institutional guidelines, research-based strategies, and pedagogical approaches suitable for diverse classroom contexts.
  • Develop reflective practices to assess and enhance personal English language proficiency, tailoring professional development to address areas of improvement and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Apply knowledge of English as a lingua franca (ELF) and multilingual dynamics to foster inclusive communication and engagement in English-Medium Education (EME) settings, particularly within healthcare education.
  • Use Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) principles to bridge disciplinary learning with language acquisition, demonstrating proficiency in writing effective Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs) with a language-centred focus.
  • Implement a variety of active learning strategies to engage your students effectively, promoting student interaction, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in a communicative and collaborative learning environment.
  • Demonstrate competence in assessment practices tailored to language learning contexts, including assessing communicative abilities, providing culturally and linguistically sensitive feedback, and accessing support resources for English language learning.
