The aim of the course is to give you a basic understanding of laboratory safety to protect yourself and your colleagues, the public and the environment from the possible harm generated in our laboratories.

After studying this course, you should be able to:

• understand the regulatory framework that governs laboratory safety
• understand the obligations of employers and employees
• evaluate hazards and risks to carry out a risk assessment
• identify the needs for suitable personal protective equipment, routines for waste management and transport
• understand the legal requirement to report any accidents or incidents
• respond appropriately in an emergency
• participate in other advanced courses
